A Goal without a plan Quote So you have the date set, and you are ready to start, so what’s next? Lets make a reference to something really easy to help you understand this one.

Lets say you are going on vacation to do one of your hobbies in a far away land. You book your trip, then what’s the next thing that you would normally do? Well, I’m hoping you said “Plan it out”? Why exactly do we plan it out? First things that come to my mind would be what the climate is like so I know what to pack. What is there to see? Where will I eat, and so on. We think these things because we simply want to get the most potential out of our time while visiting. Why wouldn’t we do the same for our fitness plan to maximize all the effort that we will be putting in? Without further ado…

Tip #2-Plan. Then Plan some more.

If you really think about it for a minute, Planning is one of the most important things that we do (or should be doing more of) in our everyday lives. It is usually one of the first things that comes to mind whenever we look to accomplish something new in life, whether voluntarily or involuntarily . An issue presents itself, then we have to figure out how we must achieve or defeat said issue. Lets use fitness as said issue in this case. You have decided that you want to get in shape, so you already know what the issue is. The next thing to consider is exactly what you have to do in order to actually get in shape. Planning for the correct issues up front sets down the road map to your goals. So, if you are like me and never done this type of thing before, I had no clue what all went into actually being “in shape”. So, from my personal experience as well as my studies, I have come up with this short list of what I feel are some of the most important issue to think about when setting up your fitness plan.

  • Where will you be working out? Home? Gym? Rec Center?
  • Can you do this yourself? Can you afford a Personal Trainer?
  • How often and when will you work out?
  • What types of exercise will you be doing? Free weights? Machines? Cardio? Yoga?
  • If you are dieting, what will you eat? If adding muscle, what will you eat?
  • What could you cut out of your current lifestyle that could impact your new healthy life?
  • What are your exact goals? How much weight do you want to REALISTICALLY loose /gain?

This isn’t an all encompassing list, just a darn good start and most likely some of the key things you will need to think about to help you plan your fitness goal into a reality. So, with these things in mind, take 5 minutes, sit down and try to think about some of the things you will need to do in order to make your plan happen. Next tip we will delve more into the different types of exercise options available to you.
